On a very hot and steamy Saturday morning, in July of 2024, during the Farmer.s Market, I had the pleasure of being asked to photograph the Brampton Music Theatre as they celebrated a reflection of 50 years of shows, as part of the City Brampton's 50 year celebration of being a city.  Even Santa Claus dropped by.

Act 1- Let the Show Begin

Story written by Bret Sheppard

Since 2023, I have had the greatest pleasure of getting to know the Brampton Musical Theatre, through attending 3 of their magnificent productions, getting roped (happily )in, during a steamy Farmer’s Market morning in July 2024, Santa Claus was in attendance. as well as, at rather cooler time zone, CTV Toronto's Toy Mountain in 2023 with Weather host, and a delightful person in her own right, Lindsey Morrison, and culminating with a Christmas Show with Brampton Concert Band at the Rose. It has been a fabulous experience, and I have enjoyed each show immensely.  "The Wizard of OZ" , "The Prince of Egypt", and recently "Sister Act".

The Brampton Music Theatre was founded back in 1963, way back when I was just a bumbling toddler of 3. My musical tastes then was banging on a small toy piano probably driving my parents nuts, My mom told me at that time I always enjoyed music from the radio or record player. Vaguely I do remember When the Beatles first appeared on Ed Sullivan Show. Our family religiouly always watched the Ed Sullivan Show eveny Sunday To this day The Beatles are still my number one band. Gee back in 1963, the Toronto Maple Leafs actually won a Stanley Cup.

It all started with  an avid group  of singers gathered together and produced an evening of song at a local church.

The first show was excerpts from "Rose Marie", and consequently received an overwhelming response from the audience, that they began to do full presentations of Musical Productions. At which point, the Brampton Music Society was born and they originally performed at Lester B. Pearson Theatre,

Their mission is dedicated to Art education and  a musical Theatre Program, Saturday mornings for ages 6-17, and is open to anyone who would like to be a part and Musical Theatre group whether it be performing or helping behind the scene, everyone has a role to play. Does not matter is you are a seasoned performer, rookie,  or trying to test the waters in theatre arts, everyone is welcomed.

My own trip down performing on stage, is as follows; I took Theatre Arts in Grade 11 & 12 and in grade 10 performed in Gilbert and Sullivan's comic opera, "Pirates! The Penzance" as a constable. And in Grade 5, for our school Christmas concert I played the part of the Mayor of Hamelin in the Musical of "The Pied Piper". Then is Grade 6 during our Easter Break from school, our teacher gave us a presentation assignment of what you did during the week off. I decided to make a Movie along with my best friend Stuart, using our family 8mm Kodak camera, and then cooked up a movie script that was filled with comedy. After that we gathered our neigbourhood friends. Kind of like Our Chateauguay Gang. And away we went to it.. (sorry I am getting away from the Main story, I will do a seperate story)

The Brampton Music Theatre is run by a volunteers and the same goes for all the performers and stage hands. Their headquarters are at the Old Shoe Factory, 57 Mill Street North.

Shows that I have seen are “Wizard of Oz” , “Prince of Egypt”, and recently, “Sister Act”. Each show was outstanding and thoroughly entertaining. Well Choreographed, acted and wonderful musical numbers. Terrific set designs and costumes. I easily was able to follow the shows, which made me get into the show.

Recently, I again had the utmost privilege by attending The Brampton Music Theatre's latest production Again it was top notch "Sister Act". What a magnificent show, thoroughly entertaining. From the cast, costumes, and stage set up, I was completely enthralled with the performance.  Well worth the admission fee, and truly a great way to spend a Sunday afternoon. Although tired from a attending and participating in Councilor Rowena Santos Youth Council Park Cleanup ( which also was a tremendous success) I was still able to relax and enjoy Sister Act. It was also a terrific way to end a very busy weekend.
